Then you will receive your membership card by mail to use at the September dance.

Dance Lessons

Cindi and Doug Scheid are still teaching beginning dance lessons.  However, the location for the lessons has changed.  They will now be teaching at the YMCA (Downtown).

The YMCA lessons are on Wednesday from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM and the schedule is as follows:

Fox Trot        September 3 and 10

Swing            October 1 and 8

Waltz              November 5 and 12

These lessons are limited to 10 couples.  Please call the YMCA at 336-3190 to register and for the lesson costs.

As always, please share this information with your friends and family who have an interest in learning to dance.

One New Board Member Needed

The new year for the Couples Dance Club begins in September. Five of our current board members have served their two-year terms and will be retiring. Please consider helping to continue the life of the club by volunteering to serve. The board meets once every two months to plan and carry out the work of the club. You are needed! Please contact one of the current board members to volunteer.

Thank you to the following members who have volunteered to serve on the Board:

Dee Fuller, one year remaining

Gene Engebretson, one year remaining

Dick Blundell

Joanie Keuser

Dale Pettyjohn

Thanks, also, to the five members who are retiring.

Learn the Tango

At 7:00 p.m. before our August dance, a USA DANCE chapter member will teach the basics of the Tango free of charge. During the intermission USA DANCE members will also demonstrate as a group.

It’s traditional at dances to clap for the band after each number. Let’s show our bands that we appreciate their music by enthusiastically clapping after each dance.

Dear Couples Club Friends of USA Dance Chapter 2090,

First a big thank YOU for helping support our new chapter. As of this writing we are close to being 60 members strong.  One of the greatest benefits of membership in USA Dance is simply being an active participant in and supporter of this dynamic and effective leader, promoter and supporter of ballroom dancing.  USA DANCE is not a social dance club.  We're a catalyst to establish a great variety of dance related programs and encourage more people to become involved in the benefits of dancing--fun, fitness and social interactions.  This national service non-profit organization helps each and every dancer find the physical, mental, and social benefits of ballroom dancing.

In its educational role, USA DANCE raises funds and expends much labor in support of amateur ballroom dance and youth programs in colleges and schools.  We provide guidance support and encouragement to all ages of ballroom dancers.  A major virtue of ballroom dancing is that it promotes and supports good health.  In its charitable role, USA DANCE also raises funds to support good health by assisting health related charities.

On August 8th our local USA DANCE chapter is delighted to work together with your group to bring our "dance family" together for an evening of promoting ballroom dance.  Plan on showing up early to take in a Tango lesson by one of our members then enjoy watching our members tango together as a group as well as perform some favorite dances during intermission.

We invite you to get your happy feet to National Ballroom Dance Week, September 19th through September 28th.  The week begins with our regular monthly third week dance at a local dance venue on September 19th.  The next 9 days will offer dancing around town at affordable--sometimes free, lessons and dances at many of Sioux Falls’ finest ballrooms.  www.USADanceSouthDakota.org  is the place to find out more as events will be posted by August 15th

Information and Sioux Falls Chapter 2090 applications will be available the evening of August 8th.  We feel ballroom dancing adds new dimensions to life!  And hope you'll consider joining us.

Mary Lou Steib, Volunteer President

Sioux Falls, South Dakota USA DANCE Chapter 2090

Dress Code

The dress code requires a coat and tie for men and dressy attire for women. The club voted several years ago to maintain the dress code in the essence of true ballroom dancing. Thanks for your cooperation.

Outside Beverages

Did you know that it is illegal to bring in outside beverages to the Shrine? They have an on-sale liquor license and this prohibits the bringing in of other beverages.  Please comply with this law.  The Shrine bar offers a variety of beverages and snacks for your choosing. Thanks for your compliance.
